Hi Pythonists,

Could you write down the tutorial in English? Because I think that it is so difficult for someone who want to apply PPS in Ubuntu.

I am using PPS client in Windows, and I love it so much. I can enjoy some great movies with very high speed.

Best regards,

I live in Serbia and my girlfriend is Chinese. We often use the PPS (beautiful piece of software) and only because of that - we have a windows on our computer. It installs on Ubuntu through wine, starts, but cannot play. It would be realy good if PPS could run on Linux natively or through Wine. Thanks in advance.;)

Hi, I just checked in to see if there might now be an official PPS Linux client, and I am pleasantly surprised to find that there is. Just go to http://dl.pps.tv and you will find a URL link to download the Ubuntu 8.04 PPS Client.

There is a "How to install and use Ubuntu PPS Client" here - http://www.pps.tv/about/6/364.html

Has anyone tried it yet, and if so, how does it stack up against the Windows client?

p/s. How about Ubuntu Xunlei and Xunlei KanKan? Are they available?

I can't use the guide from the pps webste...

It seems that website only support the i386 version, but mine is amd64.

Does anyone know how to deal with this question?

Just to confirm that deb version of pps works on ubuntu 10.04 -32. It have some issues with fast forward, but left side is (unlike win - except chinese version) in proper chinese letters.
Linux rocks!:D

I have found this error..

Your client does not have permission to get URL /p/ppshell/wiki/PPSMplayerInstall from this server

seems that PPS.tv had changed the pfv format, wonder if you had kept up with them

Watching Cable TV?

1. Get a QAM Tuner: http://www.hauppauge.com/site/products/data_hvr2250.html

2. Grab this: http://tvtime.sourceforge.net/

3. ????

4. Profit

Watching Over-The-Air?

1. STILL get a QAM Tuner (if it's too expensive, get a non-USB TV Tunner from Hauppauge)

2. STILL grab tvtime

3. ????

4. Profit

MythTV is bloated.

MythTV is bloated.

I've used both tvtime and Me TV (which is available in the Ubuntu repos). Me TV is much better for digital transmissions.

I use MythTV (a full-blown mythbuntu installation) on my media center pc connected to the main TV in my house. MythTV may be bloated for just watching TV, but that's really not what it's for. If you need a solution that can handle not only watching live TV, but streaming it to other computers throughout the house (including different channels to each computer, if you have multiple tuners), as well as recording something on a different channel, neither tvtime nor Me TV will cut it. MythTV also streams movies and music to the other computers, as well as offering a nice interface for launching all my various video games.

It's not bloat if it's functionality that you actually use.

I use VLC with my Haupp pvr150. Vlc never lets me down. Tv-viewer is also good if you have an ivtv based card.
