upgrading to unreleased packages

Hey there,

I have a sound card that's only recently been supported in alsa 1.0.20, so I'm hoping to install that version of alsa. I'm normally a gentoo user, and I want to do something like unmask the package in package.keywords file. Any idea how this can be done in ubuntu?

I think i've learned that ubuntu doesn't manage unofficial packages and that you're on your own to build and install them yourself, which I've done. Marking as solved.
