Hello all,
I was testing karmic on my machine when an upstart update caused it to freeze in the booting process.
Seeing as I couldn't configure my wireless via command prompt (tried everything posted on the forums, nothing worked), I wanted to make a fresh install. I have a separate /home partition, so I thought I was good to go.
However, this didn't work out the way I hoped. I burned two karmic livecd at low speed (4x and one 8x), both returned Input/Output error 5 at 51% respectively 71%. So, I thought something was wrong with the cd's. I tried my old livecd which I used to install the original system, same error.
Now when I boot I'm stuck in grub rescue mode. I really don't know how to proceed anymore.
Does anyone has a suggestion?
Thanks in advance,
Ruben

Almost same situation over here.

Trying to install karmic 64 bit on a machine with scsi disks. Always stops at 5% or 65-66% complaining about not being able to set partitions and error 5 respectively.

Anyway, happene the same with ubuntu 9.04....could it be a disk problem? A smart quick test didn't show anything wrong.
