I have just been thinking about this and how exactly did Microsoft arrive at the version number 7 for the next Windows release. The first PC I used had Windows 1.x on it and as far as I recall the releases went as follows...

1.x
2.x
3.0
3.1x
NT 3.1
NT 3.5
95
NT 4
98
98SE
2000
ME
XP
Vista
7

So surely this should be Windows 15. Just wondered like.:D Can you tell I'm bored.

maybe they think 7 will be there lucky number :lolflag: as they continue to lose people to the light side of the force (linux)

For the boring answer, it's the seventh iteration of the NT kernel.

Comedy answer, it's the amount of RAM you need to run it.

Of course it is, how dumb of me. IIRC NT stands for 'New Technology', in that case Microsoft, can we see some please.:D

It probably just sounds nice!

It might have some kind of background reason like Namtabmai said though :)

A short, stocky, bald man suggested the name to Microsoft.

It's rather simple, really.

7 is the square root of 49.

Windows Ketchup, comes in 52 flavours. Seems some how appropriate.

Fixed that for you.

EMH may be bald, but he is surely not short nor stocky.
