View Full Version : [ubuntu] 5.1 Surround Sound using XFi

Yes, another XFi post but I can't find the solution anywhere.
Basically I have sound working on my Creative Xtreme Gamer but it's only 2 (not even 2.1). When I try:

speaker-test -c 6 -D surround51 -t wav

I get:

ALSA lib pcm.c:2205:(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM cards.pcm.surround51
Playback open error: -2,No such file or directory

Also when I try an AC3 file in VLC and go to 'Audio>Audio Device>5.1' I get:

VLC could not open the ALSA device "surround51" (No such file or directory).

But then I close the error message and it plays in 5.1.
I have tried upmixing using .asoundrc but it get the first error message still, plus I would much prefer proper surround sound.
Is it just the driver doesn't support surround sound yet?

P.S If there is already a solution, sorry but I couldn't find it.
