Hi, you should be able to install Ubuntu using wubi using Xp Pro Sp3
You can download the wubi installer from here (http://wubi-installer.org/).

Best of luck. I keep getting error 5, no matter what I do. (_*&$% it.

I have an error too at Windows Vista...
writelines arguments must be a sequence of strings

Check the file...
c:\users\d.\appdata\local\temp\wubi-9.04-rev129.log

But when i go there there is not any file!!!

Yes, still can't get it to install here. Tried downloading the DVD, however WUBI won't give me the option to install it under windows... :(

Googling error 5 shows loads of people with the error; they are pulling out memory sticks and blaming them, blaming poor CD media, blaming CD drives ... anything but the actual cause - poor/unstable installation mechanisms.

My h/w is 12 months old and JUST FINE thanks, and ubuntu breaks when installing. Somehow I'd fluked it a few months ago, but not now no matter what I do.

Self-evidently this version of Ubuntu is unreliable and really only for techos and hackers unless you fluke a working installation. It's a dead loss for me. Wasted time on something that should work 1st time every time.

It's just the web I enter. The result is disastrous.

Can you tell the development team ?

Have you try that link before recommend it ?

Thankxxx anyway

Yes I tried the link, there is nothing wrong with the link :)
If you believe you have come across a bug with wubi you can open a bug report here (https://bugs.launchpad.net/wubi/+filebug) make sure to attach your wubi log to the report.

When you say 'The result is disastrous' can you provide some additional information on what is going wrong?
If you are having problems with downloading Ubuntu after you have started wubi you can download the Ubuntu Desktop iso from here (http://noncdn.releases.ubuntu.com/jaunty/) and stick it in a folder with the wubi.exe file and run wubi.exe
This will use the download iso rather then wubi downloading it.

As you wish. I forget Wubi. That's all.

I have many years using a PC. Wubi is a disaster.

Do you suppose I am a betatester ?
There is a larger process to say the program goes wrong ?
And the people giving reasons in this same post : Is wrong too ?

P.D. My system is windows xp pro + sP3 (spanish version if may help)

Good bye
