My DVD drive in my laptop went out and I don't really care to replace it considering I never really use it or burn anything so I'm trying to find a work around to install Ubuntu on my system.

I was a Windows XP user for sometime and found a article that gave information on how to install Windows 7 RC from XP using a partition and running some command lines. I believe how it worked was it ran the iso from the partition I made.

I'm wanting to do that with Ubuntu but am not sure how I can do so. I've found tons of guides on how to do this except the guides require you already be using a linux distro which I'm not.

Anyone got any advice?

Yeah, I know.

I was more so wanting to know if I could install it similarly to how I installed Win 7.
