snip:

Here's a nice and embarrassing story: German hacker Ray, who is well known for opening handcuffs, has photographed the official handcuff key of the Dutch police, modelled it in Blender and printed it on a Reprap 3D printer. And guess what? It works!

RepRap was a finalist in the 2009 SourceForge Community Choice Awards, so a big thanks to everyone who voted for us.

this is cool on so many levels i am having trouble comprehending it. not really the handcuff part - that is anecdotal - but the concept itself.

the mind boggles with what else could be replicated this way

i take my hat off to the man who did it for such creative thinking in the first place

i must admit my failure.

best i have come up with so far-

-coasters, barbie dolls, other small and useless objects
-cover for the center console in my car where a radio would go
-plates and cups in ridiculous shapes -- assuming the plastic can be coated with something easily
-little army guys
