Well, I never print at home and the printer I have doesn't work with Linux, so I don't use it. However, I do trust CUPS. It's fully open source; who cares what company is behind it?

(a) hear good things about it, and very little bad.
(b) am able to read the source code myself and understand what

It's not about "hating", its about contesting the claim that Apple are allies of, or even a good thing for, Linux/FOSS; or that we should be unequivocally singing their praises because of CUPS, webkit, or what-have-you.

The fact that Apple purchased CUPS can be a plus if they keep it open source under the GPL. But if they dont we will have to take the last version that is released under the GPL and branch off our own.
But being CUPS is just a printing system. It doesnt take much to maintain.
