Anybody have any experience with Moon OS 3.0? It's based on Ubuntu 9.04 but with E17 as the desktop manager. It looks real nice and even has Firefox 3.5 along with Open Office 3.1. I'm a bit skeptical to install it as I've heard that E17 is unstable.

The website is below.

Any thoughts?

I ran MoonOS in a Virtual Machine. I was so impressed with it, including how well it ran in the VM, I decided to download and compile the enlightenment desktop manager. I'm currently using enlightenment e17 as my default windows manager. I can see that it has greater potential to rival the likes of MacOS X, or even Windows XP for that matter. It just seems a lot more responsive to me than Gnome and KDE, and it has plenty of eye candy without the need for additional graphic support (compiz doesn't currently work with Intel GM960 graphics reliably for me).

This all having been said, I can tell there is still work to be done. It isn't ready for primetime like Gnome, at least, not in my hands it's not. I haven't really figured out how to configure it entirely.

You know what's funny? I had compiz working with fire and majic lamps effects on 8.04 and i'm thinking when i went to 9.04 ubuntu i lost the ability to do compiz. I had some trouble compiling e17 in ubuntu but i think it was a lot to do with how my hard drive was partitioned and ran out of space.. i tried to run moon but i couldn't get a desktop going from the livecd.. a serious disappointment for me... this opengeu works great.. try it out.. i hear e17 works on xp too? scary, but appropriate.. if i had half a dozen virtual desktops for xp to aide my compartmentalized thinking, i'd never have wondered from microsoft...
