I'm having a problem installing Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty) - 64 bit edition. My hardware is:

Asus M2NPV-VM (Nvidia chipset) motherboard
Athlon 64 X2 3800+ processor
4 GB RAM

I've checked my install media and it's fine. When I first tried installing, I got a kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init error message. I got rid of this by specifying acpi=off in the boot options. However, once I got to the first install screen, the mouse and keyboard (both USB) would be completely unresponsive.

I was okay installing 32 bit Linuxes on this system, though I would like to avoid that because I want to be able to use all my RAM. Any thoughts on what the problem may be? Thanks!

I checked the CD and it had no errors. It seems to be something to do with the 64 bit version of Ubuntu. I can't complete the install since both my mouse and keyboard don't work in the first install screen - it might even be frozen.
