slugging redrawing

Hello,

I apologize beforehand if this does not make sense but I will try to describe the issue as much as I can. The problem I am facing is that Gnome is very sluggish. When I switch from one window to the other or between tabs in firefox, the redrawing takes at least 2 seconds. This is very annoying and is basically driving me crazy at the moment.

I have disabled all desktop effects and set a simple theme overall. The only thing I can think that might be causing this is the fact that the graphics card is an onboard one:

Any ideas on how to make Gnome draw a little faster?
