Heya guys,

I've been browsing your forums for a while and finally came to registration because of this question I could not answer with google.

How do I make my gnome panel (task bar thingy) glass-like transparent?
When you choose a semi transparent picture or transparent colour it show my wallpaper in all it's transparentness. I want it to show the underlying window. Let me elaborate with the following screenshot, please notice the 2 red squares named "1" and "2".

Basicly I want panel showed with "1" to show the same kind of transparentness as the window border showed with "2". Is this possible in stock ubuntu or do I need something among the lines of Emerald/Compiz Fusion?

This post has instruction on the middle of the post about true transparent panels.

I looked at the pic AFTER posting above. Sorry.

The link to my other post is still relevant and if you are customizing it tells how to get all the cool transparent effects for your desktop.

Do you mean the transparent window borders?

That is using Compiz, and Emerald as the window decorator.

Then you just DL themes from gnome-look.org (http://gnome-look.org) and put them in Emerald.

Also you might try installing fusion-icon

sudo apt-get install emerald

sudo apt-get install fusion-icon
