1. WHEN is GNOME going to update its native support for themes to accommodate a more modern look? Will it ever? Or is it part of the GNOME philosophy/tradition that everything continues to look old school, and I should never expect a native Windows 7 look?
According to the GNOME schedule (http://live.gnome.org/TwoPointTwentyseven), the 3.0 UI will be the LAST feature focused on right before the release of the beta, next FEBRUARY. But I'm not even sure if their goal is going to be a visual update to bring GNOME into the modern age, so I don't want to blindly wait for that.

2. What can I do to achieve a Windows 7 clone right now? I have NEVER had a single positive experience with any theme looking even remotely like modern versions of Windows, so I am more than a little wary about finding things on my own, especially when nothing similar to what I want has a >60% rating (much less >90%). I used KDE, but all I ever achieved was a cool-looking panel, which I'm sure can be achieved in GNOME. The only way to theme it seemed to be with Emerald/Compiz, which was always flaky and buggy at best. Just the panel and window border would be fine. The decorations within the border don't need to look exactly like Aero.
The panel and window borders from this would be perfect. (http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Who+Needs+Windows+7?content=110502)

I would be MORE than willing to donate to a project specifically designed to update GNOME to natively support a nice, frosted glass, Aero-like theme. I can't be the only one who wants this.. ;_;

Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

if you really fancy windows, why not just use windows, remember linux is not a wondows clone but linux (so cloning windows looks is not a top priority )to the smallest linux is a unix clone.

At this point, I'm pretty sure people who make comments like you did are just trolls. Why would you ever be against a Linux OS with a new look? At this point, I think what keeps most people away from Linux is that it just looks like an old, low-quality OS, when in fact, IMO it is actually superior to Windows.

That's actually a combination of some things, but I'll give it a shot :). It's just temporary, though. I'm still in search of a project to visually redevelop GNOME. Is there some way to help reshape it short of learning to program or draw? I'd love to test for bugs! And donate, of course.
