I'm looking for a simple generic (preferably FOSS) image for CD (and maybe a floppy) that can be used to catalyze a USB install

I've seen some things that might work but either they aren't what I'm looking for or I'm not smart enough for the task.

Summary: I've got mostly old hardware, some without CD-ROM, that I'd like to do USB installs on. I'm willing to learn some foo if someone is patient enough for me.

I've found this, I'm not sure if it will work but I'm going to take a stab at it and report after.

they have something for floppy, CD or USB that will link you up to the latest of a handful of distros to be installed online. I haven't tested it out but it only seems to work with hard-line, or maybe a wirless card but not my wireless USB.
