Hi All,

I am not able to login using the GUI on Ubuntu 9.04. I don't think it has anything to do with 9.04 coz this happened first on 8.10 after I installed a few packages like matplotlib, GLib and its dependencies (PyGTK, Pyobject) etc. I restarted the machine and now it does not give me proper login screen. It just shows the usual log in screen for a fraction of a second and then does something and refreshes the page with the initial beep of login screen.

I have no clue of this problem and would appreciate any help.

Regards,
Atul.

Try the command "startx". You'll be prompted for a username and password, and by then, you should be able to get to GNOME or KDE.

The Xserver is already running. I can see the screen but it keeps resetting with that beep every time I try to enter something there.
