I just installed Ubuntu Studio 9.04 on my Dell Optiplex 320 computer. But when I boot up the computer and get to the GRUB loading part and press Esc to enter the menu, and select 'Ubunto 9.04, Kernel 2.6.28-3-rt' all I get is a blank screen, a blinking cursor, and nothing happens.

-I also deleted all of the partitions so the old OS wouldn't be taking up space.

I'm not familiar with Ubuntu studio, but what happens if you just let it boot up without hitting esc?

Same thing happens when I don't press Esc and just let it load, a blank screen and a blinking cursor.

I use Ubuntu Studio but I stick to the generic kernel. The rt kernel does the same in my machine, but it does it when I shut down. You won't need the rt kernel unless working in audio production.

So what causes this problem? And should I try installing Ubuntu Studio 8.04.1?

No idea, Give Ubuntu Studio 8.04.1 a try.

Did the LiveCD run correctly?

There are not LiveCDs for Ubuntu Studio, therefore there's no way to test the rt kernel without installing.

If you have access to the newest ubuntu mag it does have a disk with 6 different ubuntus' on it. Ubuntu studio is one of them. You should be able to find it at any major book store.

Ok I tried installing Ubuntu Studio 8.04.1.
I selected 'Install Ubuntu Studio' then 'Loading Linux Kernel' appeared, after it reaches 100% I get the same blank screen with a blinking cursor.
