I've just installed ubuntu 9.04 on an old HP pavillion 423.uk, 1GB RAM.

Installation went well but when I switched on the next day OS wouldn't boot.
I restarted in recovery mode, selected resume normal boot and OS loads fine.
This happens every time I switch PC on.

Any ideas?

Rob

Update - Tried HDD with Ubuntu on in another old spare PC and it shuts down and starts up fine.
Any suggestions appreciated.

Let's get a better look at your setup. Boot the Ubuntu Live CD. Choose "try ubuntu without any changes", when the desktop loads come back here and use the link in my signature to download the Boot Info Script 0.32 to the desktop. Once on desktop open a terminal and run this command
sudo bash ~/Desktop/boot_info_script*.sh This will create a RESULTS.txt file on the desktop. Paste the entire contents of that file back here. Once pasted highlight all text and click the # sign on the toolbar to place code tags around the text.

Thanks for the reply. I think I've done what you requested correctly.

I couldn't boot from live CD so I used recovery mode. I selected repair broken packages and noted the following -
several failed to fetch errors
Also could not resolve gb.archive.ubuntu.com, could not resolve security.ubuntu.com and run apt-get update to correct these problems.

I then resumed normal boot and OS loaded ok.

I hope this helps

Thanks again.

Rob
