Okay, so I've got the "extra" effects on, and I was wondering if there were any more cool effects, like transparency in the toolbars (or whatever you call them in Ubuntu...), or wallpapers that change every X seconds, or different Ubuntu themes, or whatever.

So, is there anything?
(Ubuntu 9.04)

For a start, have a look here for wallpapers and themes:
http://www.gnome-look.org/

Compiz can do much much much more than just "extra" effects.
Grab the compiz config settings manager from synaptic, once installed it'll be in System --> Preferences --> Compizconfig settings manager

From there you can have a desktop cube / sphere, write with fire on the screen, have water sloshing around on your desktop, make your applications fold up into paper aeroplanes and fly away when you minimise them etc etc.

There's an awful lot that can be customised in ubuntu, so have some fun then ;)

If you want stuff like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTRsLW0eet0

install CompizConfig Setting Manager:
sudo apt-get install ccsm

then go to system-->preferences-->CompizConfig Setting Manager and dive in.

Cool themes:

Install the Murrine engine so the themes look right:

sudo apt-get install gtk2-engines-murrine

Awesome! Thanks!
Question though... How do they get the transparency when using the desktop cube?

Open CCSM

Desktop Cube plugin - select the Transparent Cube tab

Opacity During Rotation - move the slider to the left - around 70 or so looks pretty good

Aha! Thanks!

You're welcome.

CCSM is one of my favorite toys.

Spend some time in there. It's amazing what that thing will do for you if you are looking for different desktop effects.
