NOTE: If you don't want to read about the background of the question, just go straight to the last line, it's bolded so you don't have to search for the beginning.
Hi everyone, I'm thinking about putting Ubuntu on an older computer that we have, since my brother got a new laptop for college, and that my mom thought it would be a waste to throw it out since it's working. So on to the real problem, the computer doesn't have a DVD drive, since he never needed one, and my other brother's DVD drive died so he just took the drive from the one that's going to college. Now, he already have W7 installed, but I thought it'd be cool to learn about Ubuntu since you never know if the company you work for goes cheap and use Linux. Back to the problem now, can I install Ubuntu from a flash drive or do I have to install from a CD?

If you think using linux is "going cheap", you might want to study up on your facts a little.

Most older computers don't support booting from flash, though you can sometimes get around it by using something like puppy-linux or damn-small-linux, then installing from flashhdd.
Find the right google query

I know that going Linux does not necessarily mean going cheap, but a majority of the time, people go Linux as either a temporary OS, or don't have the money to buy an OS.

I suspect a lot of people around here have migrated to Linux because Windows is so bad.

I know I did.
