ubuntu usb drive

hey guys,

ok so i'm using ubuntu 9.04 and i want to be able to take my set up where ever i go with me (aka to other computers which don't have ubuntu already installed) i already looked at the option of makin a boot usb stick and that is cool but not really what i'm looking for really... i was hoping to be able to take my current configuration and put it on a 2 gig usb stick... and if i can't do that is there any way that i can just boot ubuntu from the usb and then mod it and be able to save changes to that usb drive? ie program downloads, themes, etc...

thanks guy and i apologize as i'm sure this has been asked before but i wasn't able to find it in any of my searches so if you have a link to a thread which explains this feel free to post...

remastersys can turn your current install into an .iso file: http://www.geekconnection.org/remastersys/remastersystool.html

ubuntu's usb startup disk creator can then turn that .iso into a live, bootable, thumb drive.
