View Full Version : Cairo Shell public alpha is going live September 22nd

The Cairo Shell project is publishing it's first public alpha version on September 22nd, and I wonder what you think about it? It is for Windows though, but it gives a quite different experience.

I am currently using the private alpha test version Milestone 1, and it just does not feel like Windows anymore.

Looks interesting. I've never been a fan of the default Windows interface. Unfortunately the version of Windows that could really do with a spruce up (XP) isn't supported yet. For good reason, of course, but still a bummer.

I do think XP is supported.

Well, they might have messed about with it, but according to their FAQ:


What operating system(s) are supported?
Cairo will fully support Microsoft Windows 7 and Microsoft Windows Vista at the time of release. Support for Windows XP will not begin until the 7 and Vista versions are complete and relatively bug free. The rationale behind this decision is due in part that 7 is a newer operating system and is the environment of choice for future software development and compatibility.

Well you're right on that one. But hey, they might make it support XP anyway. Only time will show.
