I was trying to install MSN Live Messenger 2008. First, I've installed all winetricks which needed then I've tried to install Install_{508CE775-4BA4-4748-82DF-FE28DA9F03B0}.msi file but when I wrote msiexec /i Install_{508CE775-4BA4-4748-82DF-FE28DA9F03B0}.msi, it says err:msi:copy_package_to_temp failed to copy package L"Install_{508CE775-4BA4-4748-82DF-FE28DA9F03B0}.msi"
fixme:msi:MSI_OpenDatabaseW open failed r = 80030002 for L"Install_{508CE775-4BA4-4748-82DF-FE28DA9F03B0}.msi"

Any ideas to fix it?

Use pidgin. You're not on Windows anymore -- don't be so quick to go to Wine.

WLM won't work in any shape or form on a linux box. You have two options

1) Use windows (via VM, dual-boot, instead of linux etc)

2) Use an alternative MSN client like pidgin

Oh, don't say that it won't work. I want it work. Not just because I love WLM. I just tried something, I know it's possible for me, be sure that I won't use it when works. I just need to see that it works.

And just because I love Ubuntu, I won't say that Pidgin is pretty good. aMSN is better than it but I still want WLM works under Linux with Wine!

So, any other ideas?

If you check the link below to the CodeWeavers application compatibility site, you will see that the current version of WLM is rated garbage -- meaning, it's NOT going to work:

http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=127

You're using Linux, not MS Windows -- nothing in MS Windows is guaranteed to work here.

I know, I've seen it before. I'm just trying to make it work. I'm not a normal user, I'm in this. At least, trying to be in this. There must me some way to work it out..

The ratings on the CodeWeavers site are from experienced Wine users who have tried everything they know to make apps work. If they rate it "garbage", then it's simply NOT going to work.

I guess I'll just have to say it again -- this is Linux, not Windows. Just because it works in Windows is no guarantee that it will work in Linux.
