I'm a freelancer graphic designer and have some experience using a bunch of leading graphics and media editing software as follows:

◦ Perfect command of Adobe PhotoshopCS, Adobe After Effects CS, and Sony Vegas Movie Studio.
◦ Very good knowledge of Adobe Dreamweaver CS.
◦ Good experience of Adobe Illustrator CS.

Yet, I'm not very familiar with the open source communities. But I want to contribute with my "limited" knowledge to any open source project. May be by some artworks, icons, any graphic designing-related issues. Though, I will need some little guidance at first regarding GUI specific stuff as my work wasn't directed there basically.

So, I'm posting here:

First, offering my complete help and dedication to any kind of open source project with my knowledge if you are a developer or have contact with someone you might think needs such help.
To know where to go from here or in other words, to know the right place to offer such help if here is not.

And of course my contribution is completely free of charge.

Samples of my work can be found HERE (http://hotamr.deviantart.com/). By the way, I'm very flexible when it comes to designing. So, those samples don't limit what I can offer.

Hmm, first post, personal thing, MS software etc. I dunno, that's why I've only moved the thread and left it open. Wait & see.

I have to agree with bapoumba it looks like spam to me. There is no mention of Ubuntu or any other FOSS.

Guys, don't u think wat s/he asked is just so simple ??

@cariboo907, sounds like u haven't read his/her post quite well.

I'm not very familiar with the open source communities. But I want to contribute
1- Self-explanatory, isn't it?? He/she has no experience with os software that's y s/he is posting here.
2- Some, if not all, of the MS applications s/he mentioned have no decent os alternative btw. So, don't blame her/him mentioning them.

**And personally, I humbly request:
1- Please, stop being paranoid!!
2- If u cannot help, don't make the conversation draft away from its intended purpose.
^3^- Please, if u have further speculations or sceptic inquires, even if related to me as u can get paranoid about me as well (I'm sure of that), PM me!
4- Since u, admins, left the thread open, don't ruin the conversation with some miscellaneous and trivial talks.

I am going to check this guy's work out for a project I am working on (U-lite). Perhaps he is just wanting to make Ubuntu wallpapers for people, I dunno, but I think it is hard to call it spam right off.

Recommenation: start using Ubuntu and get involved in the forums to get a feel for how things work round here. On the whole this is a friendly place. Don't be scared to ask questions.

If you had stated that you used Ubuntu in the beginning, there wouldn't have been any misunderstanding.

Sorry about that.

Maybe he/she hasn't had time to post more often. We don't know what he is going through in his real/biological life.
I agree with ENigma885 (http://ubuntuforums.org/member.php?u=420324). This is supposed to be a friendly forum; first answer a user receives shouldn't be paranoic doubts about his/her intentions.

I would refer to this very positive thread from awhile back

Best way to contribute is not to ask from ubuntu forums, unless you want to contribute only for Ubuntu related artwork.

If you want to help F/OSS applications, then you need to go to them. You need to find out software maintainers (they are not usually Ubuntu users!) and email to them or their postlists or go to IRC channels to talk to them.

It does not matter what software you actually use, but it is needed that all the files what you develop, are possible to get opened with open source software. So use pure SVG (so people get them open with Inkscape and so on), (layered) bitmap graphics files like XCF, TIF or PNG. There is no use to send PSD or other formats what are not so well supported. That is the hard part.

The F/OSS community needs good artists. But do not leave it only for Ubuntu. Ubuntu is nothing else than one distribution of Linux OS and GNU tools! So welcome!

hotamr, my recommendation is install Ubuntu Studio immediately (or at least install 'ubuntustudio-graphics'). If you're running Ubuntu already you can just paste this into a terminal:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install ubuntustudio-desktop ubuntustudio-audio ubuntustudio-audio-plugins ubuntustudio-graphics ubuntustudio-video linux-rt... BUT you can leave out the stuff your don't want or need; for instance the real time (rt) kernel (unless you happen to be working with vid or audio) which I have made bold in the next code. Just delete the part in bold once you've pasted it in:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install ubuntustudio-desktop ubuntustudio-audio ubuntustudio-audio-plugins ubuntustudio-graphics ubuntustudio-video linux-rt
... and you might not even want the audio so just leave that out of the code too (ubuntustudio-audio).

http://ubuntustudio.org/

There are other distros devoted to multimedia/visual art out there also. :)

ps: I like 'scarey eye' but not sure about "Ubuntu: fear of death!"

x ... someone showed me Windows 7 on the train and amazing how it's time to follow the leader; open-source meets oppression ... now Bill copies us, this is virtually a smack bang screen shot of what the dude on the train was showing me! I started chatting to him cos I thought I met another Linux user. I noticed that machine was a Dell, not Mac, so it must have been Linux. Nup. Windows 7.

But we are aware of the differences and if you're not perhaps you should be using Windows7.

I tried the Windows 7 RC and i was like "haven't i seen this before?". Maybe Microsoft is finally accepting that the tables have been turned. Maybe Open Source is winning.
