View Full Version : [ubuntu] SMTP and Evolution

I am currently experiencing some problems regarding Evolution and SMTP.

Currently, I am using the following settings for sending email(I use IMAP on the same(default) account for recieving).

Servertype SMTP
Server smtp.gmail.com
Server requires authentication
TLS encrytion
Type PLAIN
Username myemail@gmail.com
Remember password

In the beginning it worked(although I can't remember what my settings were at that time). Suddenly, my emails weren't being sent anymore. When I hit send/receive, my hotmail(POP) and gmail(IMAP) run just fine, but the progressbar of the Gmail smtp doesn't move.
I have tried different settings regarding the server ie smtp.gmail.com:587
Also I tried changing the Type to login, which also didn't work. Apart from that I tried deleting the whole account and using hotmail to send(which I used to do): the same happened.
After that I tried to use thunderbird, which was actually able to send mail through smtp and Gmail. I did this only for the sake of analysis, because I prefer Evolution.
I find it very strange that evolution doesn't ask for my password for smtp after using the option forget passwords.

Does anyone know what is wrong or how I can solve this?

Thanks

I use SSL and do not use the @whatever.com part of my username as per the instructions here and all is fine. Always has been.
