I'm new to ubuntu so i dont know what im doing really but ive been looking at a lot of forum posts and troubleshooting thingies. either im getting it wrong or i have some unique problem. I dont know what information you need to help me....

I have a creative xfi soundblaster xtremegamer sound card.
i installed the driver (i think).
i had to run a make command in terminal
then a sudo make install
and that seemed to do it. and now i have creative in my sound preferences.
but the sound still isnt coming out. You can skip all the basic "is it plugged in is it muted" stuff. ive checked already :P

thanks i finally managed to sort it out. but now im getting a problem with using banshee media player. The sound quality is appallingly bad. Cant figure it out cos the quality is fine 8on all other programs that ive used.

*EDIT*
actually. tried using VLC and getting a skipping problem on my music but the quality is fine. So i guess its a codec problem. Where do i get reliable codecs from? The point of this thread has completely changed lol

*EDIT*
disregard last edit lol. turns out i was only halfway through downloading the torrent which is why it was skipping lol.
