Just wondering if anyone was going to software freedom day. Stallman will be there.

I've never heard Stallman live, but his speeches are always interesting. It would be worth going just to hear his thoughts.

Let's just hope he doesn't "have lunch" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I25UeVXrEHQ) in the middle of this one.

Thanks for the link. I have read all his essays too, but hearing him alive and asking him questions(hopefully) would be a different experience.

As a concerned New Englander, I wonder if Stallman is going to address the serious problems Mass has been having with rational enforcement of laws where technology is concerned?

Given the spate of lunacy coming out of the area it will be something of a cop-out if he doesn't at least raise the issue that New England is getting the worst rep in USA for misapplying laws when tech gets involved.

Off the top of my head we have the LED t-shirt arrest at machine-gun-point at Logan, the ATHF advertisement bomb-scare, the computer confiscation/terrorism accusation leveled at the student who had a CLI based OS installation, the wiretapping charge for the guy who had a dictaphone on him during a dispute with police... am I forgetting any recent ones? I know I am forgetting a big one...

I hope Stallman takes the opportunity to make some productive points... And I hope none of my regional neighbors take offense at my comment here, but if Stallman is going to make big gripes about things like web based proprietary backends then the least he can do is speak up against the persecution that is becoming the hallmark of Mass law enforcement whenever anything electronic is involved.

It would be more like a 60's parade in San Fransisco

Is that the theme song , " with flowers in their hair' ?

Sorry I am being flippant

But no , a pep rally for an OS ... that would bore me stupefied:(

i think a pep rally for ANY technology-related "awareness" is a bit...silly.

I've been to a few linux events around Boston. They are very geeky but not overbearingly so and there are usually some very interesting people that you can talk to like the MIT Media Lab folks and the anarchists.

I am thinking that since the students are back there will be tens of people showing up.

If I lived in Boston, I'd probably show up to try and talk some sense into RMS.
