Hey, everyone. I am making this simple: Read the reviews and then vote for the person you like the most. I.e if you had to live with these guys, which one would you pick?:
Bill Gates, owner of Microsoft:

His Story (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linus_Torvalds)

"I was a nerd. Geek. From fairly early on. I didn't duct-tape my glasses together, but I might as well have, because I had all the other traits. Good at math, good at physics, and with no social graces whatsoever. And this was before being a nerd was considered to be a good thing." -- Linus Torvalds

Now it is time to make your choice.

Good wishes,

I don't think you can compare them. Jobs and Gates are primarily businessmen(although Gates has a programming background). Linus is a hacker and Woz was a computing genius too.

I hate Steve Jobs ._. lol

But I think Mark Shuttleworth should be in here too ^_^

And of course, I chose Linus!

I know, but I just mentioned all the OS "roots". I chose linux too. How could anybody choose GATES, thouugh?!! He is a $40 billion dollar company owner that could afford easily to give all his stuff away AND THEN split the rest of his wealth into the next 35 Gates generations. :D I goez for linus cause he did this stuff for us, not his pockets.

Torvalds, Stallman and Shuttleworth: the trifecta.

I don't really know enough about any of them to be able to form a qualified opinion.

I voted for Woz though as I like the idea that he sat in a garage somewhere and actually built the hardware in the first popular PC. Not an Apple fanboy, never even used a Mac, but there's something about that I just find cool.

He's a hacker in the old school sense of the word.

I know next to nothing about Linus though (despite being a Linux user lol) and I'm sure a little research on my part would make him my favourite.

Jobs and Gates are just businessmen, as someone said earlier. And personally I think they were just in the right place at the right time.

Yep, I agree with that mostly. rms deserves a mention imo at the very least, he'd be my winner if he was there.

Steve Wozniak. Why? He owns the patents to the following (Also, he hasn't used them against anybody):

US Patent No. 4,136,359 - "Microcomputer for use with video display"
US Patent No. 4,210,959 - "Controller for magnetic disc, recorder, or the like"
US Patent No. 4,217,604 - "Apparatus for digitally controlling pal color display"
US Patent No. 4,278,972 - "Digitally-controlled color signal generation means for use with display"

The Woz. His ingenuity pretty much started the affordable home microcomputer market.

No Stallman?

Without Stallman, Linux would still just be a kernel. Without Linux, GNU would STILL be waiting on hurd to mature.

You can't mention Linus without mentioning Stallman if you are referring to Linux.

I vote for Woz, I would have a blast hanging out with him, and you got to have respect for the stuff he did.

Linus would be a close second.

Gates & Jobs I don't think I would not be interested in being around (unless they wanted to give me some of their vast amounts of money, then that would be cool :P )

II actually prefer Bill Gates to Steve Jobs... Steve can be really like, narrow-minded and vicious IMO! O.O

Okay, it seems as if most of you like Torvalds best, (Me too, but then, duh, this IS UbuntuForums.org) :D

Also I like Wozniak too, but he was a little wild as a young man... :D
