trash icon does not work

i've searched the forum for some mention of this problem, but it seems nobody else has had this, so i'll ask here:

my trash icon is always empty, even if there are files in it. i can empty the trash (right click on the trash icon), so the trash is working; it just doesn't indicate whether it is full or empty.

i am on ubuntu 8.04. i've had this install on my machine for nearly two years now with no problems.

this trash icon problem just started recently and i don't know why.

hello again

the problem has solved itself, though i didn't find a solution: i re-started the machine and the trash icon worked again as usual.

i think this must be a new bug?
