Hey guys,

I am trying to switch my media center over from XP to Ubuntu. I have never really used Ubuntu before but I want to learn the ropes.

I have a Dell desktop (3 years old) hooked up to a 50" Samsung DLP via VGA. I used UnetBootin to make a bootable thumb drive of Ubuntu 9.0.4 Live. I booted from it and chose the main install option. Then the screen showed a few black and white lines flash and then showed the ubuntu loading page with the logo and the loading bar. Next the screen went blank and I got a message from my TV saying that it could not understand the signal from the PC. It appeared to have a signal, but could not display it. The first time this happened I could press ctrl+alt+f1 and get a terminal (but I didnt know what to do from there) but the second time I tried it I could not even get a terminal. My goal is to reformat my hard drive and just have ubuntu running, but I am confused as to how to get it to show up on my TV.

Any ideas?

Thanks a lot,
-Jeff

I'm struggling with the same thing. I suspect you have to add some custom BootOptions.
How to add: custom BootOptions (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootOptions#Changing%20the%20Boot%20Option%20Confi guration%20Line)

Here are the Linux video mode numbers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VESA_BIOS_Extensions#Linux_video_mode_numbers).

Good luck...
