I downloaded ubuntu 9.04 iso image, burned it to a cd and installed it on my newly assembled PC.

My PC configuration,

Intel quad core (q9550)
4 GB DDR3 RAM
Nvidia 9400 GT
500 GB SATA

The live cd hangs randomly during installation, I finally got it installed after trying 5 to 6 times. Now it hangs randomly after booting up. Also the mouse and keyboard doesn't work.
Sadly, it is behaving like Windows. :-(

I am really clueless how to troubleshoot and fix this problem. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Your specs look fine.

Since you had problems installing, my first instinct would be to wonder if your image was corrupt.

Did you do the md5sum and a disk integrity check?

Yes, I did the disk integrity check. No errors. Actually I installed the same image on my laptop a couple of weeks back, it works fine on my laptop.

How about a memtest? Even brand new components can be faulty.

I realize that's a PITA, but it might be worth your time. I assume you did the basic stuff like using a ground around your wrist when you built it to avoid ESD, but you never know.

Also might be worth a third check to be sure that everything is seated properly.

Let's eliminate hardware issues, then move on to what else might be wrong.
