Hi!

My machine works VERY WELL with Ubuntu 8.04, but I want to get some newer version.

Normally I use the Update Manager to get my software updated, or Sinaptic to install or uninstall programs. But I cannot find any package to upgrade from 8.04!

Could anybody give me some hint?

Be sure I will appreciate your assistance!

Greetings,

Go to System->Administration->Software Sources. Go to the updates tab. Under show distribution releases, set it to normal releases.

The reason you have to do this with 8.04 is that it is a Long Term Support (LTS) release. That means that it is supposedly more stable. They didn't want to suggest upgrading to an unknowing user who wanted only LTS versions. Don't worry, 9.04 is quite nice. (Unless you have an older intel graphics chip). To get to the latest version, 9.04, you will have to upgrade to 8.10 and then 9.04.

FredoV,

As softwareExplorer hinted ..... try out a liveCD to see if Jaunty works with your system.

Muy buenas,

Raymond

Yes, but 9.10 is still alpha.

There you have it: "InstUb"!!! . . . that is: "Instant Ubuntu"!

So many answers, and every one makes sense! Fantastic!

------------------------------------------------------

Now I will go up to 8.10, and in some future continue to 9.04, and so on . . . Step by step, without hurry!

Thank you all,
