I am brand new to Linux and Ubuntu and I'm liking it. However I did run into a problem that I'm glad was early on. After loading ubuntu 9.04 I decided to see what KDE looked like but ended up loading KDM (I still not sure of the difference). Anyway, I found I was liking Gnome better, but could find no way of switching back. You see I had loaded Ubuntu without a login screen, so there was no way I could I could go to the options window. I tried everything; "sudo dpkg-reconfigure gdm" (BTY, why does the abbrev for Gnome have a "D" in it), I even uninstalled both desktops down to line commands and then re-installed GDM and KDM still showed up! What should I have done? Anyway, I eventually just re-installed Ubutu.

GDM stands for Gnome Display Manager
Have you completely removed KDM?

GDM stands for Gnome Display Manager
Have you completely removed KDM? Yes, there was no display manger loaded and I was down to command line. Oh well, I reloaded Ubunto and THIS TIME included a login screen. Now I'm off solving other problems..THX for responding
