I have OCD. So well. My computer is one of my obsessions.
I cannot find the perfect theme in Gnome!
Can someone help?
I want something that makes me feel happy, yet not overly bright, or overly dark, just right. Not shiki-colors either.
I can't do it anymore!
I need a new Gnome theme, and one I will stick with. I have stayed up three full nights straight themeing my computer and it still isn'y perfect. None of the Bisigi project themes are good enough. I need an un buggy professional theme. One that I may stick with... maybe just forever because I'm sick of themeing.
Someone help PLEASE.

I use new wave.

You know you can use the customize button to pick and choose parts from all theme installed?

I like to customize xubuntu. The blue theme looks better to me than the orange in ubuntu.

I just remembered blubuntu in the repositories. I rather like it for professional.

I installed that one, looks awesome and works great. I like the black bars with the very visible window content.

I checked that one out, too bright for me, but still looked decent.

When you open an office document with this one is the page white? I had a problem with the page being a dark gray with the slickness_black theme so I changed it to the Ubuntu Studio theme until I could find another.

You just need to edit the colour theme in OpenOffice from Tools - Options - OpenOffice.org - Appearance and specify the colours you want instead of using the Automatic clours.

Cool, that's great to know. I'll have to give that a try next time I'm doing a paper.

I just found it to be easier to just use Clearlooks which has nice look and customize the color and for window border hit gnome-look.org and find good border in metacity section. Find that to work quite well.

Not a dark theme, but not a light theme? Well, macchiato is nice:

I've also got a pretty good mid-color setup on my desktop right now. I took the glow theme from GNOME-look and modified the colors (provided here in hex)

Text is #fafafa.
#400c00 for window backgrounds.
#220600 for window borders.
#f91f09 for highlights.

Here's a screenshot (also shows off an older version of my custom cairo-dock theme, I've since added more stuff to it.)

Finally, if you actually do have OCD (and you aren't just using hyperbole) then you should seek professional help instead of obsessing over your theme.

Pucko is OKAY.

Try the upcoming Night Impression theme:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Incoming/Karmic/NightImpression

Beyond colour schemes, it just does beautiful things to balance things. Note, for example, the changed icon sizes :)

It's probably too bright for you though.

Thank you. I am on vacation this week and plan on working a few tweeks on the theme to finish the last of the detail up.

I have a Glassbuntu theme installed via Emerald with slightly blueish transparent windows. I also made my panels slightly transparent which is very easy on the eye...

I use a mix, use murrinecandy from the "murrine-themes" package in synaptic. and the "shiki-colors-striped-metacity" title bar that comes with shiki. and changed my fonts to purisa. and added tab thumbnails in compiz.
