I have an old Compaq Armada m700 and I installed server version and installed successfully but it restarts differently everytime. Sometimes it boots okay and then at times, it boots to and stalls at the end of a trace. I am not sure if it is a memory issue or just plain old hardware incompatability.

The reason I am trying to create this environment is to create a sandbox for a LAMP environment. I have a need to get familiar with Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP for a job and I want to refamiliarize myself with these apps expecially with command line interface.

Is it possible the issue is related to memory or hardware issues?

Can I use the desktop version to create my LAMP environment?

I might have to try again with a Dell server I have which failed probably due to CD used to install but I was trying gain flexibility with a laptop and also reduction of noise because that server sounds like a plane taking off.:(
