This is a coin of the Roman Emperor Elagabalus (218 - 222), a silver denarius. I think the portrait is superb. It sells for around $1200.

I sometime buy uncleaned ancient coins on Ebay and clean them up. I've found some nice coins, but none as fine as this.

I remember visiting Canada one summer and the Waitress at the local restaurant asked if she could give me change in "Two Toonies and a Loonie?", she seemed to take great pleasure after I looked at her quizzically and asked what? and she repeated herself once again: "Two Toonies and a Loonie?". I believe to this day I may still have my "Two Toonies and a Loonie?".

i like the loonie, especially the side with the loon, but it feels kind of like plastic. the toonie is nice because of its smoothness and its weight. it's great for a ball marker (golf), as well.

I love the Punt, the Irish Pound coin. Our coins used be so beautiful, each with a picture of an Irish animal, a bull, stag, kingfisher and horse for example. Now however, with the euro after replacing them, their all gone.

The best thing about the Punt was its size, it was a big coin. When I was a kid, and my Dad would give me a pound, it felt like a lot of money, because it was a big coin, it was substantial, not like the little euro coin :D And it helped that back then, a pound could buy me more sweets than I could eat in one day :D

Probably are, but I'm not sure. I know though that when the Euro came out, people traded over the older currency for them. A lot of people though would have saved some, have them lying around or something. I myself have 5 or 6 sets, including a few limited Millennium Pound coins. They seriously are good looking coins :D

Yeah I miss it, I wish they just transfered it onto the euro, as in the euro side would be the same but instead of having the harp on the back of everything you'd have the old pictures.
Also all the euro coins that are around the same value are the same size and colour, which means after all this time I still can't tell them apart without looking at them.

Here's my favorite:

I have a small collection of pre-decimalisation UK coinage but my favourites are a few foreign coins that I found by accident because their journey here is a mystery. I have a Gibraltar 10p, the Irish 5p, a Canadian 25 cents and a Jersey 2p. If I had to choose a favourite it's probably the Irish 5p.

That's a great story. What really surprised me the coin was worth $20. I never knew a US coin was of that value. Even more just imagine what you could buy for $20 in 1950. Crazy. Gotta admit too absolutely awesome design. The designer that did this in 1907 did a artistic job.
