I am thinking of getting a second internet connection into the house. Separate from the normal connection. This is for my server. I need something cheap, but something with a good bandwidth limit. I don't need it to be fast. We have verizon for our phone service, and comcast for our internet. What would be good for this?

Well i don't know how cheap it since they'll need to install new cabling.

Well we have all the DSL stuff set up, but we just never used it.

Just get a VPS.

Have you heard of a VPS (Virtual Private Server)?

For a server? Unrestricted Fiber.

It'll run you about $100-$150 for a cheap package.

Or VPS.

A basic Linode (http://www.linode.com/) package is $20 a month. It'll be much cheaper than a second internet connection, and except for physical access you have most of the features of a dedicated server. You can even run Arch on it.

(No, I don't work for or have any affiliation with Linode, I just know people who have used and liked it.)

I'll think about it.

I second this nomination.

I've got a Linode myself, it's great.

My only question is power. How would you shut down or restart. Or turn it on for that matter?

They have an in-house Linode control panel that allows you to do those things, along with partitioning, deploying new distros, etc.

EDIT: I took a screenshot (http://imgur.com/Q0vhi.png).
EDIT1: Note, the blue line is NOT part of the control panel and is actually some fail on the part of scrot and/or KDE4
EDIT2: I wonder what's up with the 'shutdown' button being in that awkward place in the screenshot... it's not rendering like that in Chromium right now.

Linode is very good for what they offer, I have nothing but positive words to say about them. rock solid.

If $20 is too rich for your blood though, there is fivebean (http://fivebean.com). They have a special going right now where a basic VPS is as low as $6 a month, lifetime. They don't have the same bells and whistles and flexibility as Linode, however.
