Hi, I just did an install of debian (minimal w/ ratpoison) on a desktop which had sound before... after I installed alsa and ran alsaconf. simple as pie. now, apparently, alsaconf is dead forever and I don't know what to do instead of alsaconf which was my lifesaver.

onboard sound. old mobo.

ideas? thanks.

you just install alsa & reboot it's setup at boot. make sure you run alsamixer after you reboot & unmute the things you need.

doesn't look a reboot was all it needed. everything on alsamixer is all the way up...maybe they shouldn't be? i'm sure i'm missing something extremely simple.

thanks for the quick reply, you've always been able to help.
