Hi,

I recently used a 16 gb thumb drive to install ubuntu netbook remix on an acer aspire one. I've run into two issues...

Ubuntu runs horribly, I switched from XP because I wanted a really lightweight OS. I can't seem to disable the main menu either, which is really hurting my performance. Any recommendations on speeding up my system?

The 16 gb thumb drive that I used now only shows up as having the same capacity as the img file I burned onto it. I can't find any documentation on fixing this.

turn off the effects.

for the usb, install gparted and format it.

you might want to try the xubuntu instead, grab the iso:
http://mirror.anl.gov/pub/ubuntu-iso/CDs-Xubuntu/9.04/release/

use the usb-creator already installed, i think it will format the flashdrive for you, so you won't have to worry about that.
