They probably won't freeze it and take requests for Karmic until a couple of weeks before it is released in October.

Until then 9.04 is available.

I think they should really offer either the current version (9.04 now, 9.10 soon) or the LTS version (8.04 LTS) to be shipped. At least you can choose to download the LTS version from the site.
