nice..especially the way the video wraps around that cube

also pretty cool in one of the vids i linked..when you move windows (even Totem/VLC) it does this nifty little wobble effect.

This is the eye catching type of **** that will make a windows user who'd never think of touching linux be more open to the idea. Then it becomes a matter of showing it off.. a "look what i can do that you can't" that even a lamen will be impressed by.

Also the part during the demonstration when some sort of alt+tab was executed looked nice. All contents while alt+tabbing was visible in a much more overviewable GUI.

looks awesome! I liked the adapted komposeish feature, looked smooth, so are these the kind of features we can expect from xgl? Looked like luminoscity too.

does anyone of know an expect release/pre date, I can't see dapper competing with the likes of this, assuming this isn't too far away.

I agree with DigitalDuality, this is the first thing many windows users look for when comparing OS's.

Looks like Novell was making good use of that XGL code it was sitting on.
Infact, we might see MacOS and Vistaish effects sooner than later. Good news all around.

Awesome. It will probally take 6 months to a year after novell releases this before all of this filters down to being a option on Ubuntu. At least we know it is coming sooner than later.

Interesting. Some of the effects remind me of Luminocity, ie windows being malleable. It also looks like they integrated compositing. Wonder how long it'll take before that kind becomes commonplace?

I must admit that when Novell first bought SuSE I was worried. Not only did I love SuSE but I also didn't know what would happen when a traditional big software company like Novell got involved. Sure IBM was already in on Linux; but they had no intention of making their own distro, so it seemed cleaner. I had visions of Novell "pulling an Apple"

But I will eat my words today, Novell is doing great things for Linux.

Open Suse is only comprised of open software. The retail version and the evaluation version are the same. The evaluation version is free of charge but still has the propietary software included. The only difference between it and the retail version is a printed manual and free support.
