Top Coder arena not starting up

Hi,
I'm using iceweasel. I'm pretty sure that java is installed in my system. I've installed jre recommended by the plugin pop-up window. Restarted the browser.
But still I'm unable to start top coder arena :-( . Everytime I start up the arena, plugin pop-up windows pops up.

Do you use ubuntu or debian?

I'm on Debian as of now.

Everytime I start up the arena, I am offered to install jre. I have downloaded and installed it, and after restarting the browser I get the offer again. Heres my java -version output:

java version "1.6.0_0"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_0-b11)
OpenJDK Client VM (build 1.6.0_0-b11, mixed mode, sharing)
