Does anyone here have any experience using Ubuntu on the machine at a media desk at a church/concert. I know a guy who is pushing for an imac because there are some pretty good tools available for displaying lyrics, showing DVD's and videos and other such stuff. We have a front and back projector and a pretty good sound desk.

Does Ubuntu have anything to offer in this case or should we go mac?

This case?? what case?
please list all the features that will be used in order of importance (in sections like, very important, important, not that important, could be interesting but it's just a bonus)

first then we can answer you.

I have had ubuntu playing music in a party where everyone could manage the playlist as they wanted, there was no problem, and I have played videos on my laptop and watched on my hd tv.
I didnt have any problems with lyrics as I dont read them. if you want to read proper lyrics read poems, lyrics in songs should be forbidden and replaced with "laaa lala laaaa"
