I was upgrading my daughter's computer from 8.04 to 8.10 then on to 9.04 and between 8.10 and 9.04 the pc froze and now won't restart saying something about not being able to boot.

Anywho, I have a 9.04 install cd that I can get to run and access the internet. She does have some files which of course I cannot get to because of the login for the other install that I can't work with since the failure of the upgrade.

I remember having reinstalled an operating system once before and the install asked me if I wanted to migrate the files. Does anyone know if I install 9.04 over this whether it will ask me if I want to migrate the files?

Any help would be much appreciated.

You'll need to either correct the boot problem or use the Live CD to retrieve any important data and then do a fresh install of 9.04.

I'm not aware of any 'migration' feature.
