I was using Ubuntu 9.04 32bit and decided to upgrade to 64bit. I have WinXP on the same drive. Grub loads and I can choose which OS I want but now Ubuntu 9.04 64bit when loading gives me several errors and will not boot. What is my next move? I could go back with 32bit, it worked fine but I wanted up use my 4GB of RAM, that is why I wanted to try 64bit. Here are my specs, thanks for the help.

How did you upgrade to 64 bit? Did you do a clean install of 64 bit?

I backed up the files I wanted to save like documents, music, etc and then did a clean install from the alternative version of the 9.04 64bit version. I downloaded the image from Ubuntu's website. :)

what errors does it give you?

if it flashes by to quickly to write down/remember, a digital camera could come in handy.

It is funny, I rebooted the laptop and was ready with the digital camera and I selected Linux from Grub and the screen went blank and nothing happened, no flashing hard drive light. I am wondering if it is not a corrupt install and I will just have to start over. :(

is windows still working fine?

have you run scan disk on the windows partition, and fsck on the linux partition (using live cd) to rule out hardware failure?

Yes, the hardware turned out fine. It is about a year old laptop that I use at home in a small space. Windows works perfect. All was fine when I was using 32bit Ubuntu 9.04 but for some reason 64bit does not want to work even though I have a 64bit system. :(
