hi!, I am pretty new to linux on the whole, and was hoping you guys could help me.
I have two machine that run the same version of ubuntu(9) and are extremely identical (in every sense) except that one is online and at my work place and the other one is at home.

It was very annoying when i wanted to install vlc on my home PC by compiling the source code, had a lot of dependencies issues (till i brought it to my office nad pluged it online :( )..... now that i want to install other random stuff like wine and other stuff on my home machine... i was wondering if there was any way that i could do that without having dependency problems and with out dragging my home machine to work every time i want to do install a new program.

Thank in advance
