I recently startted my Ubuntu adventure with the 9.04. I had issues with getting the sound to work. So i uninstalled it and installed 8.04. No problems whatsoever with getting youtube to work. Can i now upgrade, and keep my settings or will i be back to square one again.

For me sound and flash (Youtube) work perfectly in ubuntu 9.04. But my experience is that when I have an Ubuntu version which doens't work too well with my computer (8.04 was a terrible experience for me) it doesn't matter if you do a fresh install, or upgrade, the same issues are coming back.

I would say, if Ubuntu 8.04 is working for you, stay there and fresh install Karmic Koala (9.10) when it comes out in two months from now, to see if that one works for you.

I agree with dreamsR4living, if 8.04 works for you, then stick to it until Karmic comes out.
If you want to solve the Jaunty sound problem, then see this thread (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=205449) :)
