Hi everyone,

I have got some trouble with "Fail to init HAL" in my Ubuntu 8.04, which broke my internet access too, it was all my fault. Luckily it was installed in VMWare.

I am trying to do a upgrade to 9.04 from the Live CD (not an image), hopefully it could fix the bug.

As follow the instruction: http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/upgrading

,the thing is that the update dialog never pop out after I inserted the CD, either gksu "/cdrom/cdromupdate" wasn't work for me at all since there is no "cdromupdate" in the Live CD at all.

Any idea is well appreciated,

Thanks,

-Kun

Hi, you will need to use the alternate cd (http://noncdn.releases.ubuntu.com/jaunty/) to upgrade as the Live cd does not support this function.

To "upgrade" you need to go to 8.10 first, then 9.04. You can do a fresh install (after backing up your data) to 9.04.

If you already have a working ubuntu on your computer right now just go to update manager their should be a buttuon their to upgrade to a newer version. Its much easier than burning a file to a dvd and all that

hopefully it could fix the bug.

Kun,

have you tried the liveCD in live session mode? Check if wifi, etc works.
