Are you looking at a fresh install of Windows or of Ubuntu? Both can be installed from CD.

Typically, of any OS, how you do an install is by making sure that the default media is in your computer and BIOS has whichever drive set as a bootable drive somewhere in its boot-search queue.

In your case, all you would need to do is leave the Ubuntu (I presume this is what you meant, otherwise Windows) install disk in your optical drive and turn on your computer. After about 15sec (varies depending on BIOS and hardware), you should see the install splash. From there: Follow the white rabit...

Good luck!!
