I've recently got a satellite system, (A technomate 6900), and it has the capability to record to a USB attached hard drive. So far, so good...

When I record a program it creates a folder with a set of files. These have file types of fred.idx, fred.ifo, fred.trp.

Can I play these files in Ubuntu?

And even better, can I convert / compress them?

I'm in the UK, in case that affects things!

Thanks,
Nick

Hi Nick,

We have a technomate 6900 as well. We also have the same problem as you.
Did you manage to find a way to convert them? Any help appreciated.

mplayer can play them;

from the command line

mplayer <file>

Also, if you want to convert to something smaller,
handbrake does a great job. And quickly too!
